Disaster Relief for Texas Tornado Survivors

Central  |  January 6, 2016

Texas is slowly beginning to recover after the deadly tornadoes that left at least 11 dead, and destroyed homes and property in the Dallas area the day after Christmas.

Tzu Chi USA Dallas Chapter volunteers began their disaster relief distributions on December 29th, and continued until January 4. They were stationed in Garland, northeast of Dallas, a region that was directly impacted by the violent storm.

Over the course of 6 days, volunteers offered cash card assistance to 358 families who had lost their homes. In total, $ 88,300 were distributed and 1,224 people will benefit from this emergency financial aid.

Each day was also an opportunity for volunteers to provide comfort, a listening ear, and love to families still traumatized by their ordeal.

Since this report, our distributions in Garland, Texas have continued, and to date we have helped 397 families (1,343 people) by providing a total of $97,800 in disaster aid.

We have to stand together when disaster strikes, and help each other. Provide aid to those recovering from the tornadoes in Texas.
