Huang Yangguang is the lead dancer of the piece “The Happy Life in Farmland,” and is known by all for his spirited performances, bringing warm smiles to audiences with his outgoing character. Due to an accident when he was five years old, he lost both of his arms, but this did not stop him. He defies all obstacles that would sway him from the performing arts, and does so with a positive attitude.

When the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT) performed with Tzu Chi in Taiwan, Huang Yangguang had the opportunity to meet with our founder, Master Cheng Yen. He recalls how each member of the CDPPAT shook hands with her, and knowing how he interacts with others, Master Cheng Yen made a different offer when it was his turn.

“I am physically disabled, but I also love my life. My feet serve as my hands, so Master Cheng Yen wanted to shake my foot. I felt kind of embarrassed [in her presence], but mostly I was very moved... I was so touched.”
