Living in Lumberton: Post Hurricane Florence

Disaster Relief

Tzu Chi USA returned to Lumberton, North Carolina, twice in two months to continue relief efforts for those still in need post-Hurricane Florence. When approached by Tzu Chi, people were often skeptical because they “have no idea who we are,” according to Tzu Chi USA volunteer Karren Wu. However, the distributed blankets made out of 70 recycled plastic bottles seemed to turn things around, as many were impressed by the craftsmanship. Although entire families are still displaced, relief recipients find comfort in knowing that there are people out there who care. “Thank God for them. They let us know that someone is out there who still cares, that is still trying to help people in need.”  In the words of Master Cheng Yen, “Unconditional giving is not a privilege of the rich but an utmost sincere love.” It takes change to make change. Please join our efforts in providing relief to those in need.
