The Start of an Ethical Eating Movement

National Headquarters  |  January 11, 2016

Thank you for taking part in Tzu Chi’s inaugural Ethical Eating Day.

We are moved by your support, and overjoyed to see that thousands of people joined our movement. More than 39,000 individuals — from 118 countries and more than 2347 cities  — pledged to be vegetarian on January 11th, helping raise awareness about the impact of meat production on the environment.

Together, with one resolution, let’s walk forward towards a better future. Climate change impacts us all, and through the disaster relief work we do at Tzu Chi, we witness it’s effects around the world daily. Whether it is through the emission of greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide, or the reduction of climate-friendly spaces like forests, mankind’s rampant consumption of animals has dealt a significant blow to the environment. It’s time for us to take action as individuals and as a collective.

We can take steps towards making a difference, one day at a time, one meal at a time, one choice at a time.

Join us as we continue to collect pledges and build momentum for 2017. There is still much work to do and actions to take. In the coming weeks and months, we will be working closely with our partners to showcase actions that demonstrate how we as individuals can move towards reducing our personal impact on climate change.

We look forward to living in a more sustainable world together with you. January 11th, 2016 is just the beginning of the Ethical Eating Movement. Be part of it with us, because each and every individual and their actions count! Pledge to join us today!
